2011-06-11 @ Bandar Sultan Suleiman, Klang

In line with the POSCO corporate philosophy and for the love of environment, around 200 POSCO employees in Malaysia this year voluntarily replied to the calls made by the local authority, Klang Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Klang) to plant trees in Bandar Sultan Suleiman, Klang on Saturday, 11th June 2011. 

The area which is adjacent to the primary school and high school has been identified by MPK for landscaping purposes in order to build better environment for the local community. On the day, more than 30 staff from MPK, headed by Mr. Dawari Daud, The Director of Corporate Department - MPK went down the field together with 200 POSCO members to put their love for the environment into action. After the event the area will be maintained by the Park and Recreation Department of MPK. 

This is not the first time for POSCO members in Malaysia to join effort with MPK for this kind of environment and social activities as in June last year (12th June 2010), we have concerted the effort to clean the Recreation Beach at Tanjung Harapan which is also known as Esplanade in Port Klang. More than 100 members from POSCO and about 50 members from MPK have rolled up their sleeves to beautify the beach. 

MPK has been actively promoting and encouraging local and international companies operating within the district of Klang to work hand in hand with the government agencies to greener the environment while making return on investment. This is to balance the development and environment besides beautifying the township as other beautiful cities in the world and the most priority concern, upgrading the tranquility and comfort of the people of Klang. 

POSCO employees in Malaysia will continue to participate and volunteer themselves in environment conservation or social activities as all POSCO Family employees are automatically registered in the POSCO Family Volunteer Groups so that the participants could find out adequate volunteer programs for each person and group. Sisterhood-tie program is one of the characteristic volunteer systems that matching one working group with one local community to secure continuity for the practical effect of the volunteer activities. 

Every year POSCO is implementing “POSCO Family Global Volunteer Week” from 7th to 13th June 2011 in the world. The week project is the mark making social contribution programs that encouraging the entire 62,000 POSCO Family employees all over the world to participate in volunteer activities. The programs have been developed to share the philanthropic corporate culture for globally located POSCO Family Companies and building trust in local communities in global perspective. 

POSCO, the world’s 4th largest steel manufacturer is recognized as internationally admired company for its philanthropic corporate culture, has been rapidly growing since its establishment in 1968, with the capacity of over 30 million tons annually. The management scope has been broadened not only over Asian, European, and American Countries but also all over the world. 

“POSCO Family Global Volunteer Week” would be a momentum to build trust account to capacity for local community under the communication with the POSCO Family companies in global perspectives. As a responsible corporate citizen, POSCO would constantly pursuit the sincerity and materiality for the social contribution both in volume and substances.
